Gladys M. Helgeson, 85, a long-time Janesville resident passed away Friday, March 21, 2014 at Heartwarming House in Milton where she had made her home for the past 3 ½  years. Gladys was born in Janesville on July 6, 1928, the daughter of Hjalmar and Dora (Sorle) Rasmussen. She graduated from Janesville High School  and cosmetology school in Madison. Gladys was employed as a beautician  in Janesville and later worked at Burdick Corporation in Milton. She married Lester Helgeson and together they owned and operated Cheerio’s Bar in Janesville prior to his death. Gladys was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church.
Surviving are 1 daughter, Nancy (DuWayne) Stanis of Rockford, IL, 1 sister, Esther Rasmussen of Janesville, two grandchildren, 1 great-grandson as well as nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by one sister, Florence Anderson and five brothers, Arnold, Leo, Elmer, James and Homer Rasmussen.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Milton Lawns Memorial Park Chapel, 2200 Milton Avenue, Janesville with burial to follow in Milton Lawns.  Rev. David Brynelson will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at Milton Lawns Chapel. Memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare, Inc. The family is being assisted by Henke-Clarson Funeral Home.   GLADYS’  FAMILY WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS THEIR DEEP APPRECIATION TO THE AMAZING STAFF OF HEARTWARMING HOUSE  IN MILTON AND THE WONDERFUL SUPPORT GIVEN BY THE AGRACE HOSPICECARE STAFF.
